"This is an incredible opportunity for me on so many levels," McElhiney said when she was appointed. "I'm thrilled to be a part of building this team from the ground up. I'm also grateful to (team owner) Sally (Anthony) for letting me take the reins in what has, to date, been uncharted water for a female coach."

Women have taken some steps in the coaching arena for men's teams, but their responsibilities were on a smaller scale.

, currently an assistant coach for the . Ready, now an assistant with the W, was the first female assistant coach for a men's professional sports team when she took the job in 2001 and stayed with the Groove until it folded in 2003.

was an assistant coach for the Oakland (Mich.) University men's basketball team for three seasons before moving over to coach women. She just finished her first season as an assistant with the women's basketball team after serving as an assistant on the Toledo women's basketball staff for a year.

Last year, Tennessee State athletics director made history by becoming the first woman to coach in a Division I men's basketball game. Then interim coach was serving a one game suspension, and Phillips coached the , currently the Ohio State coach. He had an entry level position for her to be the team's videographer.

Then there's McElhiney's youth. She will turn 23 on July 16 and likely will coach players older than her.

But her former coach believes McElhiney will succeed despite those factors.

"There's a lot of variables that goes into any Anavar And Primobolan good coach, and if you're checking off a list, she's got a lot of check marks," said Foster, who coached McElhiney during her first Anavar Cycle Length three seasons at Vanderbilt.

Facing doubters is nothing new to McElhiney, who hails from the tiny town of Gleason, Tenn., which has a population of 1,463.

"(She) had to work very diligently to be successful," Foster said. "She knows what hard work is. She "Hgh Jintropin Avis" wasn't listed as one of the 900 best players on one of the scouting services coming out of high school and ends up being a starting point guard on a very good basketball team and had a lot Bio Primo Methenolone Enanthate of success."

As a three year starter at Vanderbilt, the 5 foot 5 McElhiney led the Commodores to a 97 40 record during her four "Anabola Steroider Norge Lagligt" seasons. She holds the all time school record with 673 assists.

But her playing background may not necessarily translate into a successful coaching career.

"I know there's doubters out there now," Danny McElhiney said. "There's people out there looking for her to succeed, but also in the same voice, there's people out there looking for her "Oxandrolone Powder India" to fall on her face. But that's OK. We've dealt with that all of our life and she'll deal with it."

Ashley McElhiney Buy Jintropin hasn't had much of a chance to display her coaching abilities, since she's been busy with administrative duties the past month. Nashville recently held its first free agent tryout camp June 26.

There are arguments, however, that McElhiney's hiring is just well calculated public relations move for a league struggling to find its foothold.

ABA co founder and chairman Joe Newman admits McElhiney has brought about a lot of attention for the league. He equates her hiring to former NBA star signing with the league's franchise in Long Beach, Calif., or when rapper signed with the Las Vegas Rattlers, which is coached by 's father, Joe Bryant.

But Newman insists the move is not done merely for publicity and McElhiney will succeed.

"It's dumb to say Ashley can't coach a team, but can run the Senate," Newman said. "Age and gender are not the criteria to judge talent."

Crossing the gender lines is drawing the most attention to the situation.

The issue gained a lot of attention in 1990 when Pitino hired Mattox on his staff at Kentucky.

Mattox said she accepted the position because she wanted to chance to learn from the future Hall of Famer. A year into her job, she began realizing the significance of her hire.

"The letters that I got, at that point it really registered," Mattox said.

But Mattox's hiring did not start a trend.

Debates about coaches' genders have been brought up, but they usually fall on the other side. Officials sometimes are pressured to hire a woman to coach women's teams and at times criticized when a man takes the job.

This off season, 35 Division I schools were looking for a head coach for the women's basketball team. Men landed 13 of the 33 positions already filled, and 11 of those spots formerly were held by women.
